2021 SENIOR SALUTE: Braeden Bowen

Triple Major Shares His Wittenberg Experience

Braeden Bowen, Class of 2021

Majors: Computer Science, Political Science, Russian Language
Hometown and State: Lexington, Kentucky
Why Wittenberg: 鈥淭he ambience of Wittenberg鈥檚 campus, the beautiful buildings, and the dedication of the professors drew me in, but it was my relationships with those professors, who shared my interests, passions, and frustrations that kept me. They have each offered me an opportunity to explore my interests and grow, both has a student of the liberal arts and as a person. I still think the buildings are pretty, though.鈥

  1. Laptop: Having a computer on the go is a necessity, especially for my work in computer science. One of the complications of taking on three majors is the workload, so I have to be prepared to get work done on the fly, no matter where I am. The laptop goes wherever I go, and so does my schoolwork!
  2. Torch Newspaper Copy: The Torch, Wittenberg鈥檚 student newspaper, has been my place of respite, giving me a platform to discuss issues I鈥檓 passionate about and to work with some incredible, dedicated student journalists. As editor-in-chief, I was given the task of transitioning the group from our paper format to a digital model last spring, but I still have a special place in my heart for printed copy.
  3. Mask(s): A sign of the times. Wearing a mask is emblematic of the community support and care that Wittenberg students and faculty keep for one another.
  4. Vinyl Records: Music is both a source of comfort and a source of community. Vinyl is the culmination of those feelings for me - a beautiful physical representation of an auditory art that can be shared in person or at social distance.
  5. Hammock: Campus is beautiful in every season, but stretching up a hammock between two trees in the warm spring air is an unparalleled comfort. Hammocking in the Hollow is one of my favorite Wittenberg traditions!
  6. Campaign Cards: One of my favorite Wittenberg experiences was helping to run a professor鈥檚 political campaign. Beyond managing the campaign, my primary duty was creating campaign literature, flyers, and postcards. Being able to work in the Springfield community and represent Wittenberg honestly and proudly is an experience that every Wittenberg student should have!
