Several activities foster understanding and engagement as Pride Month continues

As part of Wittenberg鈥檚 Pride Month celebration, Wittenberg鈥檚 Office of Student Conduct & Title IX held a Safe Zone training for faculty and staff on June 5.

鈥淭his training is specifically designed to enhance awareness and promote allyship for LGBTQIA+ individuals within our community,鈥 said Kristina Bryant, director of Student Conduct & Deputy Title IX coordinator. 鈥淭he training covered essential topics such as LGBTQIA+ identities, terminology, concepts, and best practices for creating inclusive and affirming spaces. Participants gained insights into the challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals and learned practical strategies to support them effectively.鈥

Approximately 20 participants from departments across campus completed the training and received a Safe Zone placard for their office door signifying that faculty or staff member's commitment to understanding and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community and providing students with a visible symbol of a safe and welcoming space. More Safe Zone training will be offered to faculty and staff this upcoming fall semester.

Additionally, the Wittenberg Chapel team is hosting a 鈥楤lessing of Identities鈥 service on Wednesday, June 26, beginning at noon outside Weaver Chapel near the Thomas Library on campus.
