Uniting sociological and anthropological perspectives through hands-on learning opportunities, students in the sociology program explore human society and culture.
As social sciences, both sociology and anthropology seek to understand how people are affected by their social environment.
You will examine topics such as social roles, social inequality, deviant behavior and cultural values, as well as basic social institutions such as the family, religion and education. Students interested in working in criminal justice, the courts or the security field can purse a concentration in criminology.
Wittenberg's program is unique in its international and interdisciplinary emphases. We offer courses in the African and Diaspora Studies, International Studies, East Asian Studies, and Russian and Central Eurasian Studies programs. We also encourage students to study abroad to experience living and learning in another country.
In addition to developing a sound background in the theoretical understanding and the methodological skills needed for social science research, you will have opportunities for internships and independent study, both of which are extremely valuable for graduate school or job applications. Our graduates have successfully pursued careers in business, education, public service and social work.
