In-Semester Breaks (Thanksgiving & Spring Break)

While there are time periods in the academic calendar where there are no classes (Fall Break, FIRE Week, Easter Break), there are three time periods in which campus housing is considered closed and students are expected to return home (Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break). Additional details are given below with the closing and opening dates, stay request deadlines, and meal plan ending and beginning dates. Thanksgiving Break

Thanksgiving Break Closing 2023

Campus Housing Closes: Wednesday, November 22 at 10:00am

Campus Housing Opens: Sunday, November 26 at Noon

Residence halls are not accessible during break, take all belongings you will need with you    

Meals end: Tuesday, November 21 at 8:00pm (CDR closes at 1pm; meal exchange available in Post 95 for dinner 5pm-8pm)

Meals begin: Sunday, November 26 at 5:00pm

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Halls are closed and all students are expected to go home. Unless you have a valid University related or approved reason, requests for break housing will not be approved. If break housing is needed, please submit the Thanksgiving Break Housing Request Form through your . (See instructions below)

  • To request break housing:

    • Log into your Housing Portal ()

    • Log in with your Wittenberg Credentials (Email/Password)

    • Click the “Forms & Applications” tab on the left-hand side (if you do not see the menu, click the three lines at the top)

    • Select Thanksgiving Break Housing Request (Fall 2023)”

    • Complete and submit prior to 5PM on November 13

All requests are due by 5PM on November 13, 2023. Please note, having to work in the Springfield area is NOT a valid reason for break housing.

*Failure to follow these procedures may result in disciplinary action and/or fines

 
TO DO” BEFORE LEAVING CAMPUS*:

  • Clean room & leave in good order
  • Empty wastebaskets & recycling bins
  • Remove all valuables & medications (you will not be able to gain access to your room during Break)
  • Unplug all electrical items/appliances, including surge protectors, from the wall (except fridges)
  • Take all animals with you (Including fish, ESA's or 4Paws dogs)
  • Leave heat on & set thermostat to 60 degrees (if applicable)
  • Lock all windows and close drapes/blinds
  • Turn off lights, close and lock your door. (All doors will be locked after Residence Life does Health & Safety Inspections)
  • Sign the sheet on your door if you are the last person to leave your room

All rooms will be inspected to ensure that campus housing is prepared for break. Any policy violations will be documented and your student account may be charged for improper check out if you do not following the closing procedures. 

Spring Break

Spring Break Closing 2024

Campus Housing Closes: Saturday, March 2 at 10:00am

Campus Housing Opens: Sunday, March 10 at Noon

Residence halls are not accessible during break, take all belongings you will need with you    

Meals end: Friday, March 1 at 1:00pm (CDR closes at 1pm; meal exchange usually available in Post 95 for dinner 5pm-8pm)

Meals begin: Sunday, March 10 at 5:00pm
